MP Issues a Statement After Billy Mwangi Harrowing Two-Week Abduction

Social media influencer Billy Mwangi, who had been missing for two weeks, has been found alive, but shocking revelations about his captivity have sparked outrage. Manyatta MP Gitonga Mukunji disclosed during a press briefing in Embu that Billy was subjected to severe physical and emotional abuse by his captors.

According to Mukunji, Billy was locked in a dark room, whipped, and given minimal food during his two-week ordeal.

"The preliminary report is that the young man is seriously traumatized. While we were enjoying Christmas holidays, Billy was confined in an unknown location, enduring unimaginable suffering," he said.

Billy’s abduction on December 21, 2024, alongside three other individuals—Peter Muteti, Bernard Kavuli, and Rony Kiplangat—has drawn widespread condemnation. The four were freed on Monday morning, with Billy returning to his family at around 8 a.m. His father, Gerald Karicha, expressed relief and gratitude for his son’s safe return. "Our child is home and doing well. We thank God and Kenyans for their prayers," Karicha said.

Mukunji described Billy’s abduction as an attempt to silence government critics, as no formal charges had been brought against him. He called for urgent action to prevent similar incidents. "Let Billy be the last to go through such an ordeal. His parents should be the last to endure this pain," he said, adding that he would push for legal reforms to enhance the safety of all Kenyans.

The National Police Service (NPS) confirmed it is investigating the case and urged the public to share any information that could aid their inquiries. "The NPS remains committed to ensuring these matters are thoroughly investigated to their logical conclusion," the agency said in a statement.

Billy’s traumatic experience has spotlighted a growing concern over abductions in the country, prompting calls for justice and stricter measures to protect citizens from such incidents.
