Mining Cabinet Secretary Hassan Joho is firmly defending his decision to join President William Ruto's Cabinet, claiming it is a strategic move for the greater good of Kenya. In a candid interview with Obinna TV, Joho emphasized that his appointment is not a betrayal of the people, but an opportunity to influence change from within the government.
"I don't think we betrayed anybody," Joho explained. "In politics, there are two choices: hold the government accountable like the opposition or create change from the inside. We chose to make a difference."
The former Mombasa governor underscored that accepting the chance to make an impact within the government is not only important but essential for implementing some of Azimio's key policies. "What matters now is what we can achieve, given the opportunity we've been given," Joho said.
Joho also addressed his past political alignment, noting that if Raila Odinga had won the presidency, they would have formed their own government. Now, with the chance to be part of the ruling team, Joho views it as a step towards meaningful contributions to the country.
When asked if his view of President Ruto had changed, Joho affirmed, "I now see Ruto as my president and boss. Political dynamics are always evolving." He reminisced about their previous collaborations within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), citing their time together in 2007 when Ruto was ODM’s deputy leader.
His dramatic shift from Ruto’s fierce critic to a key supporter in the government highlights a significant transformation in his political trajectory. This marks a stark contrast to just two years ago when Joho swore to never support President Ruto.
