Kenya Railways has announced the official resumption of the Voi train stopover, following President William Ruto's directive to introduce night operations at the station. Starting December 15, 2024, the Madaraka Express passenger train will make a 3-minute stop at Voi, providing more convenient travel options for residents.
Kenya Railways Managing Director, Philip Mainga, shared that the Nairobi-bound train will stop at Voi from 2:05 a.m. to 2:08 a.m., while the Mombasa-bound train will make its stop from 11:45 a.m. to 11:48 a.m. This new schedule caters to the needs of Voi's residents who had requested a night stopover to support business activities and travel convenience.
The decision follows a directive from President Ruto, who responded to local demands for better travel services. Speaking at the launch of the Devki Iron Ore Pelletisation Plant in Taita Taveta County, the President assured the community that the Transport Ministry had worked swiftly to address their concerns, allowing the night stopover to begin on December 15.
With this move, the Madaraka Express is expected to significantly enhance accessibility and connectivity for those traveling between Nairobi and Mombasa, especially for late-night travelers.
