The National Assembly has dismissed as "misleading" a memo allegedly sent to the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), requesting vetting of new Cabinet Secretary nominees. The memo, falsely attributed to the clerk of the House, listed five individuals, including three former Cabinet Secretaries from the previous government.
The memo urged the EACC to conduct background checks on the nominees to ensure their compliance with ethical and legal standards, as required under Chapter Six of the Constitution. However, the National Assembly has clarified that this communication is not genuine.
The memo's appearance comes just a day after President William Ruto met with retired President Uhuru Kenyatta at his Gatundu residence, sparking rumors of a potential political alliance that could include some of Uhuru's allies in Ruto’s Cabinet. However, State House clarified that the two leaders discussed national and regional issues, emphasizing the need for a united and collaborative approach to governance.
In a speech on December 9, President Ruto stressed the importance of political leaders working together to build bridges rather than barriers, reinforcing his commitment to inclusivity and collaboration, which includes working with former President Kenyatta and opposition leader Raila Odinga.
