In a recent statement, President William Ruto called on police officers to cease engaging in illegal activities, such as cutting down trees to produce charcoal for profit, highlighting the severe environmental consequences of such actions.
The president strongly condemned an officer who was caught in the act of deforestation for personal gain, asserting that the individual must be held accountable as a lesson to others who disregard the government's efforts to protect the environment.
Additionally, President Ruto urged Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale to ensure the preservation of the environment and prevent harmful activities that could jeopardize Kenya's future.
This statement follows the arrest of a DCI officer by KDF soldiers, who were found illegally transporting 20 bags of charcoal on the Nakuru-Mogotio Road. After being confronted, the officer attempted to flee but was unsuccessful. The officer is now awaiting arraignment.
