On Saturday afternoon, a devastating accident occurred at Chavakali Junction, where two vehicles collided head-on. One of the cars was carrying Peter Mutehi, a staunch supporter of President William Ruto. Mutehi was returning home for the Christmas holiday from his work at a supermarket in Kakamega County.
Eyewitnesses reported that the driver of Mutehi's car died on the spot, while Mutehi and another passenger were rushed to Mbale Referral Hospital in critical condition.
Traffic officers later revealed that the driver of the other vehicle, a matatu, was intoxicated and driving at high speed. Despite attempts to stop him, the driver continued speeding and ultimately caused the crash.
Mutehi, a key figure in Vihiga County's support for Ruto during the 2022 elections, had been actively encouraging youth to back the president for the country's transformation.
