In a bold statement made during a conference in Mbale on Saturday, Vihiga Governor Wilbert Otichilo directed local police to detain top politicians in the county involved in corruption. The governor, addressing the ongoing challenges facing the county, condemned the actions of certain politicians who he claims are sabotaging Vihiga’s development and tarnishing his leadership.
According to a report by Vihiga News, Governor Otichilo expressed frustration over being unfairly criticized for the county's failure to fully utilize its allocated budget. He refuted allegations that Vihiga County operates multiple bank accounts, suggesting that the claims were part of a coordinated effort by corrupt politicians to undermine his administration.
Governor Otichilo stressed that corruption and embezzlement by these high-ranking officials were major obstacles to Vihiga's progress. "The reason Vihiga County is lagging behind and not ranked among the top-performing counties is because of these corrupt individuals who are mismanaging funds. I urge the police to arrest them as they are tarnishing my name and hindering development," he said.
Looking to the future, Governor Otichilo vowed to ensure Vihiga County shines as one of the top performers in revenue generation and budget utilization. He committed to fostering transparency and accountability to guarantee that Vihiga achieves its full potential.
