Prominent activist Morara Kebaso has called for the resignation of Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja, citing the government's failure to address a series of abductions targeting youths, including critics of the administration.
Taking to his X account on Wednesday, Kebaso expressed frustration over the continued disappearances, questioning why IG Kanja remains in office while key questions surrounding these incidents go unanswered.
Kebaso highlighted that the abductions have not been limited to government critics but have also affected innocent individuals. He cited the case of Donald Kiplagat, the brother of renowned cartoonist Kibet Bull, who was reportedly abducted by unidentified individuals after attending a church service at an SDA church. Kiplagat's whereabouts remain unknown, leaving his family and supporters in anguish.
Last week, several youths who had been abducted for allegedly posting controversial images of President William Ruto were released. However, questions persist about who was responsible for their detention, as the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and other security agencies have denied involvement.
Kebaso has urged IG Kanja to step down, arguing that the ongoing abductions and the lack of accountability from security agencies continue to unsettle Kenyans. "If these key questions remain unresolved, IG Kanja has no business staying in office," Kebaso stated.
The situation has sparked widespread concern, with many Kenyans calling for greater transparency and accountability from the country's security forces.
