Canon Jonathan Kabiru Elected New Bishop of Nairobi Diocese, Marking a New Era for the ACK

On Saturday, January 18, 2025, Canon Jonathan Kabiru was elected the new Bishop of the Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK) in the Nairobi Diocese, following a vote by 23 delegates at ACK St. Stephen's Cathedral on Jogoo Road.

His election comes after the retirement of Bishop Joel Waweru, the second bishop of the diocese, and it signifies a milestone as Kabiru becomes the third bishop to lead the Nairobi Diocese. Prior to this, he served as the archdeacon of ACK, where he played an influential role in both spiritual and administrative leadership.

The role of Bishop in the Nairobi Diocese carries immense responsibility, overseeing the spiritual wellbeing of the congregation as well as managing the diocese's administrative functions. Canon Kabiru's election brings new hope for continued growth and vision within the diocese as it moves forward.

As an archdeacon, Kabiru was deeply involved in guiding and supporting parishes across the region, ensuring that church activities aligned with the core values of the Anglican faith. His leadership is expected to strengthen the Nairobi Diocese’s commitment to serving the community, advocating for social justice, and addressing modern-day challenges.

With a strong foundation in both spiritual guidance and community service, Canon Jonathan Kabiru is poised to lead the Nairobi Diocese into a new chapter, continuing the Anglican Church of Kenya's mission to impact both the local and wider community.
