Huyu Alikuwa Mnyama: Serial Killer Arrested Today, Here's What He Was Found Doing

Authorities have finally arrested a suspected serial killer, Ruben Karakacha Mukhwana, two months after his daring escape from custody.

Mukhwana was caught on January 7 in Kitale Town while attempting to purchase second-hand clothes. The arrest, however, was far from smooth. Police had to intervene when an angry mob gathered, demanding instant justice for the alleged murderer.

To control the situation, officers fired warning shots into the air, dispersing the crowd and allowing them to take Mukhwana into custody safely.

This arrest ends weeks of anxiety for Kitale residents, who were on edge after learning of Mukhwana’s alleged crimes and his escape from custody.

Trail of Crimes

Mukhwana first came to the police's attention in September 2024, when he was caught with a mobile phone belonging to a murdered bodaboda rider. Further investigations led to the shocking discovery of a woman’s body at his residence.

In October, he was arraigned in Kitale Law Courts to face charges of two murders and robbery with violence. However, he managed to escape by deceiving guards into thinking he needed to use the restroom.

Similar Escapes in the Past

Mukhwana’s escape is reminiscent of another incident in August 2024, when confessed serial killer Collins Jumaisi Khalusha, who admitted to killing 42 women, broke out of custody along with 12 others. Authorities suspected inside help, as the group cut through a wire mesh roof and scaled a perimeter wall to flee.

Mukhwana’s arrest has brought relief to Kitale residents, but it also highlights ongoing concerns about security lapses in the justice system.
