Mob Justice Horror: Missing Youth Found Dead in Kiambu

The tragic death of 27-year-old John Muchiri Muthoni, whose body was discovered along the Banana-Kiambu Road on January 4, 2025, has been linked to mob justice, according to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

Muchiri's lifeless body was found in the Kawaida area, bearing signs of a violent attack. Activist Hussein Khalid revealed that the deceased's girlfriend received an anonymous tip about the location of his body.

Initially, the discovery fueled public outrage, with many accusing security agencies of negligence amid a worrying spike in abductions across the country since December 2024. However, the DCI has since clarified the circumstances of Muchiri's death.

According to their investigation, Muchiri and several accomplices allegedly attempted to break into a rental property by scaling its perimeter wall. Witnesses reported hearing movement on the iron sheet roof and tampering with the Wi-Fi network, prompting residents to raise the alarm.

While the group fled in different directions, Muchiri was reportedly caught by an irate mob and lynched about 20 meters from the property. His body is currently at Kihara Level IV Hospital mortuary awaiting autopsy.

In a related incident, the body of another man, Ian Singoe, was found in the Mwiki area under unclear circumstances. The overlapping timelines of the two deaths have heightened public concern about the ongoing trend of missing persons.

The situation has sparked peaceful protests in counties like Nairobi and Mombasa, as citizens demand action from security agencies to address the surge in abductions and unexplained deaths. On a positive note, four individuals abducted in recent weeks have been reunited with their families.
