Juja MP George Koimburi Escapes Alleged Abduction Attempt Outside Kiambu Law Courts

Juja MP George Koimburi narrowly escaped what his lawyer, Ndegwa Njiru, has described as an attempt to abduct him just outside the Kiambu Law Courts.

"My client, Hon. Koimburi, has narrowly avoided abduction right after the court session," lawyer Njiru said in a statement.

Koimburi, who had been granted Sh200,000 cash bail on Wednesday, appeared in court again on Thursday to determine whether he would plead to charges related to his repeated failure to attend previous court hearings.

Following the court session, the MP addressed the media in a press conference, accompanied by his lawyer Njiru, Makueni Senator Dan Maanzo, and other officials. However, the press briefing took an unexpected turn when an official signaled the MP, abruptly ending the session.

In a video of the event, Koimburi can be seen quickly alerting his legal team. The group then hurriedly walked away from the press area, and as they moved toward their car, a group of men in civilian clothes attempted to grab the MP’s hand. However, the MP's legal team intervened, preventing the situation from escalating.

The group then fled in the opposite direction, with Koimburi reportedly boarding a motorcycle to escape the scene.

Koimburi had been at the Kiambu Law Courts, where the magistrate set the case for a ruling on February 25 to determine if the MP would face stricter bond terms or other legal consequences.

The incident has raised concerns about the safety and security of public figures in the country, with Koimburi’s team calling for urgent answers regarding the attempted abduction.
