Kisumu, February 22, 2025 – A tragic scene unfolded in Nyamasaria, Kisumu East Sub-County, on Saturday when a heated confrontation between two women allegedly ended in the fatal stabbing of Brenda Awuor, 30, a local resident.
The suspect, identified as Rosemary Achieng, reportedly fled the scene after the deadly altercation, which is believed to have stemmed from a longstanding personal dispute.
According to local witnesses, the tension between Achieng and Awuor had been simmering for some time, with the two women allegedly aware of a relationship between Awuor and Achieng's husband.
The details remain unclear, but sources suggest that the affair had caused rising frustration and anger, leading to Saturday’s violent confrontation.
"I was at the market when I heard loud shouting," said one witness. "By the time I reached the scene, Brenda was already lying on the ground. We tried to help, but it was too late." Emergency responders were called to the area but were unable to save Awuor, who was declared dead at the scene.
Authorities have launched a manhunt for Achieng, who reportedly left the area immediately after the incident. Police are investigating the case, speaking with witnesses and relatives of both women in an effort to piece together the events leading up to the altercation.
Meanwhile, the community is in shock. Friends and neighbors of the deceased have described Awuor as a beloved member of the community, and many have expressed their disbelief over the violent outcome of a personal dispute that, until now, had been kept out of public view.
"As a community, we never expected something like this to happen. It’s heartbreaking to see how things escalated so quickly," said a local resident.
As the search for the suspect continues, many are left grappling with the consequences of a conflict that has shaken their peaceful neighborhood.
