Trans Nzoia Senator Allan Chesang has once again taken aim at Governor George Natembeya, accusing his administration of failing to provide basic medicines in public hospitals across the county.
Speaking at a community event on Saturday, April 19, Chesang defended the national government’s Social Health Authority (SHA) program, known as Taifa Care, insisting it’s effective—just not in Trans Nzoia. According to him, the program is working well in other areas, but the county is lagging due to what he sees as poor performance by the local government.
“People who’ve gone to hospitals here know what’s really happening. Let’s not be fooled—this program is helping people,” Chesang said. He slammed leaders who have been criticizing the SHA, saying their actions are hurting residents who are already struggling to get proper medical care.
As part of the event, Chesang distributed food to thousands of residents and launched a drive to get more people registered under SHA. He also promised to roll out mobile clinics in rural areas to help deliver medication and register more people.
In a veiled jab at Governor Natembeya, Chesang said, “If you see me bringing medicine here, it means I know you’re in need.” His comments are the latest in a long-standing feud with Natembeya.
Previously, Chesang accused the county government of mismanaging Ksh800 million meant for development. Meanwhile, Governor Natembeya has claimed his life is in danger because of his criticism of the national government. He recently alleged that he was targeted by hired attackers during a burial in the county.
